Budget Naya Allies

The title pretty much sums it up, I did a two-headed giant draft recently in which I played Naya Allies. I placed first with my partner, which was a first for me. I then took the draft deck and turned it into the constructed deck I'm now farting around with.

'Sup?

Let's break the deck down:

Creatures (27):

1x Resolute Blademaster
1x Dragonlord Dromoka
1x Hero of Goma Fada
1x Beastcaller Savant
2x Angelic Captain
2x Firemantle Mage
2x Expedition Envoy
2x Makindi Patrol
2x Ondu Champion
2x Kor Entanglers
3x Veteran Warleader
4x Tajuru Stalwart
4x Kor Bladewhirl

Here comes the boom.

Spells (7):

1x Ondu Rising
2x Sheer Drop
2x Nissa's Renewal
2x Earthen Arms

Enchantments (3):

1x Quarantine Field
2x Angelic Gift

Artifacts (2):

2x Hedron Archive

Lands (24):

1x Battlefield Forge
1x Blossoming Sands
1x Rugged Highlands
1x Wind-Scared Crag
1x Ally Encampment
6x Forest
6x Mountain
7x Plains

*Update* Added some new creatures to the deck, took out Plannar outburst and tweeked my spells to fit a more streamlined curve. I may just end up running another Savant and take something else out, but I really like how this deck is coming along.

Overall the deck consists of 63 cards, and it consistently draws good stuff. I really haven't played tested it yet, but it looks like a semi-competitve deck. It's also super budget, considering Dramoka's the most expensive card in the deck. I'm thinking of side boarding her out though.

As always, give some feedback and let me know what you guys think about this deck.

*Update* I've been tweeking this deck a lot and have come to its current set up through playing a lot games. I added a lot of artifact/enchantment hate mostly because I play with people using either Xenagos, God of Revels, or Humility. I've also done some super crazy shit with this deck, like playing against a mono white deck with Emeria, the Sky ruin. See, the turn before I played Harbinger of the Hunt and used it's ability to deal 1 damage to each creature without flying, and the mono white guy was using a commander that was basically an exile on stick, and he had the Sky ruin out and thought nothing of putting his commander in the graveyard. Then I played Terastodon and blew his land up and his commander spent the rest of the game in the graveyard. It was rather satisfying to pull off a move like that, it's also one of the reasons why I enjoy commander so much.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think of this deck and send me some feed back, or better yet, like my facebook page and post the questions there? Maybe I'm fishing for likes?

Thanks for reading.

Red/Blue Eldrazi, because Why Not? (Update)

Ow
So I did a Zendikar draft on Sunday and did poop. I built the deck around Brutal Expulsion. Check it out:

Creatures:

4 Mist Intruder
4 Benthic Infiltrator
4 Eldrazi Skyspawner (Yay tokens!)
4 Heral of Kozilek
1 Drowner of Hope

Spells and Instants:

3 Wild Slash
2 Horribly Awry
3 Force Away
1 Rolling Thunder
3 Touch of the Void
3 Scatter to the Winds
4 Brutal Expulsion (One foil'd)
1 Dig through Time

Enchantments:

1 Retreat to Coralhelm

Lands:

9 Mountains (full art like a straight up G)
14 Islands (full art)

Update, part duex: Okay, so I abandoned the whole Ally theme and instead went tribal Eldrazi and the deck is actually working really well. I played against this crazy legacy deck and actually won a few games with it, Ingest helped to exile some pretty good stuff off the top of his deck coupled with the fact that he just wiffed towards the end, allowing to throw out some Scions for the win with a Dig through time. Shit was crazy. I could have played tonight (10/22/15) but I was busy working on my Naya Big Stuff deck, which I'll be making a new post on either later tonight or tomorrow so check it out when I write. Okay? Thanks.

Let me know what you guys think. I am also considering adding a third color to this deck and splashing either Jeskia or Temur, so let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions on what to add, if I go Temur I've got Savage Knuckleblade's I'll add and I'll put in some Frontier Bivouac. Anyway, thanks for reading guys.

Red/Black Minotaurs Aggro Decks are fun!

Hey guys, been a long time since I've posted anything, mostly because life and work are catching up with me and I am kind of lazy. Lately I've been focusing my energy into play Magic the Gathering, so I thought I'd post up the deck that I've been playing with as of late and see what anyone thinks of it. Most of my decks are poop so I think this is the best one I've made so far...

So a few weeks ago I got tired of getting my ass kicked with my Red/Green deck that I've been playing with a lot, so I decided to make a deck for shits and giggles. At first my Minotaur deck was shit, I barely got anything out and it mostly just pooped on itself before anything could happen. Until one day I realized something, "Maybe I should run four Minotaur Skullcleaver's and get rid of this crap that's not working!"

So I did.

Did it work?

Yeah, I played it the next week in standard and hilarity ensued. People kept asking me, "What deck are you playing?" And I was like, "It's a surprise!" I would drop a Minotaur and they'd be like, "WTF MATE!" That week I won two packs of booster packs because I placed 7th. It's the only time I've ever placed.

Let's break the deck down:

Creatures:

4x Gnarled Scarhide
2x Deathbellow Raider
2x Felhide Petrifier
4x Ragemonger
4x Rageblood Shaman
2x Kragma Warcallers
4x Minotaur Skullcleaver
1x Boltwing Marauder
2x Mogis, God of Slaughter
1x Erebos, God of the Dead

Instants:

3x Wild Slash
3x Lightning Strike
2x Magma Jet
2x Stoke the Flame
2x Hero's Downfall

Sorcery:

1x Read the Bones

Artifacts/Enchantments:

1x Obelisk of Urd
1x Whip of Erebos

Lands:

8x Swamps (foiled)
7x Mountains
4x Temples of Malice
2x Bloodstained Mire

I like my deck, it's fun when it works, I just can't do anything against a control deck. I've seen a lot of Minotaur decks on youtube, but none of them even come close to this deck in terms of flexibility or aggressiveness. I also managed to beat a Soul Sisters deck with this deck, which was cool.

Looking forward, I may be writing a lot more about MTG, so if you guys like it let me know in the comments.

Dreaming of Chicago

I may have mentioned this in a previous post, but I recently went on a road trip to Chicago to see a buddy of mine with whom I have not seen in 10 years.

My buddy's name is Immanuel, and despite not seeing each other in 10 years we did not skip a beat getting back on track with each other. He graciously allowed me to crash on his comfy couch for four days in which we got into all forms of debauchery in the form of drinking and eating super rich foods.  Over all I'd say I had an awesome time up there just getting back in touch and meeting some awesome people along the way.

The trip was not with out event though, I found out Georgia dislikes travels because I stopped at several places that either said "Bathroom out of order," or "Bathroom reserved for residents." This was a time where I had been drinking a lot of water and could not find a gas station to stop at to go to the bathroom at so I spent at least two hours holding it in before I stopped in Atlanta to buy some gas. As shitty things go, however, the journey was not so bad. I found a nail in side wall about half-way through the trip so I had to go to a Wal-Mart to buy a new tire and got lucky because they stopped making my tires and I got the last one they had.

I had pictures to up load, but I no longer have access to the phone I took them on, so I really can't upload them, though they were mostly boring because I took pictures of rocks and stuff.

I'll leave you off with the musical musing of America's Horse with no name. My next post will be about Heroes of the Storm, because everyone loves MOBAs.

I write a blog that no one reads. What happens next is AMAZING.

This title. This title, right here.

It's a cancer that is killing the internet.

Cancer is not something to joke about either, I just lost a few people I cared about to it (see previous post for context).

So when I say it is a cancer, I am not joking.

This title needs to stop. I see it every where on my timeline on Facebook. I have to remind myself to not click on these links because they ultimately lead to some poorly oriented website that lazily hosts derivatives and the sole purpose of their existence is to serve up ads in the hope that it leads to a conversion. It needs to stop.

In other news, I'm going on a road trip to go see a friend of mine from my days on the west coast of Florida when I lived in Fort Myers. He's up in Illinois so I've got about a 1,000+ mile journey ahead of me and the next nine days off from work so I'm going to take this day as a planning day record my journey as I head up there so I'll keep you all posted on my progress and maybe even write something while I'm up there.

Anyway, short post, I just woke up and this article just came to me.

Here's some Weird Al to start your day:

I'm not dead (yet)

Alright, so this last month and a half has been kind of heavy on me, four people that I knew have passed away, one of the+m was my grand father. The day he passed away was like any other day for me, I was not working and I decided to go play some magic with a friend of mine. As we were hanging out I glanced at my phone and noticed I miss three calls, so I immediately thought to myself, "Gee, this must be good news."

So I picked up the phone and called my mom. When she picked up the phone she simply stated, "He passed away. He's gone." To which I broke out into a fit of cursing, because there I was screwing around on my day off while my grand father died. Shit happens, and in my case, it really did happen.

I gathered my composure and then I continued about my day, went and played a standard match in which I got my ass handed to me every game, but I did not really care, I also got my fourth Deathmist Raptor.

My deck was a shitty White/Green Warrior deck and managed to win one game against a guy who thought it was a good idea to have all dual mana's in deck rather than using basic mana. Which worked in my favor because it took him twice as long to do anything.

Magic the gathering is a recent hobby of mine, and in a short period of time I have dropped quite a bit of money on the game. So far, the only luck I've had so far with the game is pulling Four Deathmist Raptors and a few other rares.

Enough about MtG, let's talk about my feelings regarding my grandfather's passing, which to be honest, really was not much. When I think about him, the only emotion I can conjure is frustration, frustration from dealing with a man so stubborn and broken that he'd rather die because he based his value as a human begin on the relationship he had with his wife so that when she passed away he decided life was no longer worth living and just gave up.

In a way, gramps taught me a valuable lesson, which is, don't seek validation through other people, otherwise you'll spend your entire life wasting away waiting for someone to acknowledge you. Truth is, my grandfather gave several examples of exactly how not to live my life.

Which is sad.

It's not all bad though, because he was here, and he did sort of participate if only out of reluctance and some kind of vague semblance of interest in the lives of those around him. So if I was pressed to really say anything about him, I guess I could say I loved him, unconditionally.

Other news: I went to a memorial for someone else I knew who passed away, Lee.

At his funeral I found out a lot of things that I had not known, like him having a daughter, or that he had served briefly in the Marine Corpse. For most of the time I knew Lee he seemed like a cranky old ham who mostly peddled junk, but last year when I had heard he came down with cancer I actually made an effort to get to know the man, I saw what Lee had down for others, and what he had meant to not just to the club we belonged too, but also to those outside of the hobby. I had the opportunity to say a few words about him, and I told everyone at his memorial about the last time I had seen him which was at the Orlando Hamcation in February, where despite being broke I made the effort to go up there and see Lee along with my parents. The first thing suggest to me was, "Let's go eat some barbeque," so we did. That one antidote uplifted the mood of all who were there, and I kind of surprised myself, because I was not nearly as nervous about talking in front of a group of people.

Lee was a great guy, he will be missed. Along with gramps, Ray, and John Coffee. People come and go, but what's important is to remember the impact they had on your life, and how they affected it while they were there. Don't waste your time worrying about things you cannot control, just live your life and love openly, not just for yourself, but for others as well.
