Life is Short and Hard

You know we are here only for such a short time, it's kind of funny how quickly it goes by. One day you're a kid full of optimism and starry eyes thinking that the people you love will never die, the next day you're 28 and you've watched several people you love waste away and die.

That's the thing, everyone dies. I'll die some day too, probably just like Elvis sitting on the shitter with a cheese burger in my hands.
One solution is to just ignore that fact and just go about your life as if it's not something that will effect you, until it does.

As I get older I am constantly inspired by the lyrics of Modest Mouse's music, almost as if those guys wrote the sound track to my life. When my grandfather died I was listening to the song "March into the Sea," and I started to cry because the lyrics reminded me of how much of a stubborn ass hole he could be and that given the chance he would have marched into the Sea. The song that got me for my grandmother was "Little Motel," a very emotional song about loss and the people you care the most about.

So what's the point I'm trying to make here? Well I guess it's that despite how short our lives really are, we should make the most of it. Travel while you can, meet new people, experience new things. See, I've gone through several bouts of depression where I don't even want to wake up any more, but what got me out of them was going out in the world and seeing what would happen. I understand not everyone can travel, but what I would suggest is if the opportunity to do so does arise, take it.

Right now I may be sleeping on my parents couch, but some day soon I'll have my own place again and maybe more. Who knows? I just know it won't happen over night and I gotta keep working my ass off until it does happen.

Alright, so there you guys have it, the sound track of my life right now. Let me know what you all think, and most of all, thanks for reading!

Stand and Deliver

So NFL players want to kneel during the national anthem? Good for them, agree or disagree these guys, just like you or I are entirely within their right to do whatever the fuck they want.

Think it's disrespectful to the people who fought and died for our freedoms? Think again, it's because our freedom was fought for and died over that we are free to be the ass holes we want to be today, it's not a right given to us by the government so much as it is something we are all born with; the right to be obstinate stupid ass holes.

Get off your high horse and worry about yourself.

Keranos Bolt and Durdle

So I know my last post wasn't Commander related, and for that I'm sorry. To make up for it, here's my latest deck that I've been fucking around with. I present to you: Keranos Bolt and Durdle.

It's got two of my favorite colors, Blue and Red. Together they become something weird and chaotic. I originally built this deck as some kind of weird side deck, but because I'm a constant brewer, I've been constantly finding better things to throw in this deck. As you're looking through the deck you may notice three cards stick out in terms of not just value, but power as well, those cards being the Torrential Gearhulk, Ugin, and Cryptic Command.

Like I said earlier, this was supposed to be a weird fun little side deck I built for when I was bored of playing Mono-Blue and Black, but now it's turned it to what it is now; a bit of a value sink. The story behind those three cards is the one I'll relate to you now because each one is an interesting one (I hope).

I got the Ugin in a trade. A very unlikely trade, but a trade no less. A few weeks back my buddy Ian and myself did a Two-headed Giant Event for pre-release, we both had a god pool (literally) and we built super powerful decks for the events. Ian pulled a foil'd Scarab God, so I used it for my deck, and in the end, because Ian is Ian, and Ian is awesome, he gave me the Scarab God (After he pulled a Slaughtering Pact from one of his prize packs). The Scarab God sat in my trade binder for about two weeks until I met a guy named John. I asked to see his trade binder, and in there I found the Ugin. We initially trade for some unrelated cards, but at the end, before I walked away I said to him, "Could I tempt you to trade your Ugin for my Scarab God?"

He looked at me, he looked at the god, he looked back at me, and then the god. My heart stopped for a few seconds as he looked back up at me, "Sure," he said. At the time Ugin was sitting at about $30 at low and the God was $28. I did not expect this trade to go through, but it did, and for that I am incredibly thankful to both John and Ian.

The next card is the Cryptic Command. It had been sitting in the case at my LGS for a while, at least a week. I was initially not interested in because it was foil and I thought to myself, "There's no way in hell I can afford it. The foil's gotta be ridiculously expensive." I was being lazy and indifferent, until one day while playing Commander I realized, "Why don't I look up the value of Cryptic Command?" So I did, and then I saw that there was barely a mark up on the price. I raided my binder of everything of value and managed to pick it up for some trades and about $7 cash. It is always nice to find out something you though was unattainable was actually more reasonable than you thought.

Lastly, there's the Gearhulk, which is actually the newest addition to the deck. Last night I bought seven packs of Kaladesh and actually pulled it, along with an Aether Hub, a Scrapheap, and a few other cards so I made my money back on packs.

That's the story of my durdly Keranos deck, check out the deck list and let me know what you guys think. Thanks for reading and sit tight for my next post.

Adult Children and Why Your Feelings don't Matter

You read that title right, this is an actual thing. People who are physically adults, but mentally still children. The type of people who go their entire lives in an infantile state where they do not ever progress past their overtly emotional and spastic nature. They are people who throw fits because things do not go their way (Look at what happened when Trump was elected and the collective tantrum that was thrown).

Being an emotional child is not the only symptom of being an adult child, it also includes being a child intellectually as well. Not being able to understand ideas such as "Innocent until proven otherwise," instead the narrative of "Listen and believe," is being pushed. I lost a lot of friends during the whole Trump thing because I asked "Why are you so upset," and was met with responses like, "Well he could potentially put Muslims into interment camps, and bad things could possibly happen," to which I answered, "Where are you getting this from, and even if this was true, how would he be able to legally do this when there are checks and balances that would prevent this from happening; not only that there would also be the public out cry it would cause should it actually happen?" It seems as if the logical and cognitive faculties of people turn off when politics are concerned. There's also this ridiculous notion that apparently half of the population of this country is racist now because they voted for Trump.

You know why Trump won? People got tired of hearing that their thoughts and opinions were wrong because they do not conform to the limited and skewed world view of the ultra-liberal uber elite. Trump resonated with people not because he was some well spoken Harvard educated Ubermench, but because he was like an actual human begin. He was frank, to the point, and often made an ass of himself, and for some reason people liked it. The more his opposition tried to discredit him, the more people liked him because they began saying to themselves, "These people have no fucking idea what they're talking about and what gives them the right to talk down to me? I have my own agency, I can make my own god damn decisions for myself."

See the Democrats focused on vilifying their opposition, telling everyone that Trump is "Literally Hitler," and then began talking down to their base, where as the Republicans choose a candidate that spoke to their base and was relatable.

I remember back in '08 when I was fresh out of highschool and full of optimism for the future of this country, I was finally old enough to vote, and I drank the koolaid hook line and sinker that Obama was going to be the next "Hitler," because I believed what the talking heads on the radio told me, I trusted their opinions so I voted for McCain (I physically wretch every time I remember this) because I thought at the time he was the best answer, but I was young and naive. After Obama came to power I soon came to the conclusion, "Wow, none of this actually matters, what the fuck was I thinking?" I spent all of my time being angry about shit no one cared about, I soon realized that all the rhetoric I had heard was nothing more than verbal diarrhea spewed forth at behest of major news organizations.

Ever heard of Godwin's Law? It states, "In any discussion, for however long it may go on, eventually someone will bring up Hitler and compare someone or something to him." Given that, and you may begin to understand why the claim that Trump is "Literally Hitler," holds so little water with anyone who has an intelligence above room temperature.

I survived eight years of Obama, and while he wasn't particularly a great president, he was not entirely horrible either. I mean, people ignored him killing an American citizen with zero due process during the '12 elections, but other than that I mean he did at least kill Osama Bin Laden (I was one of those weirdos that did not celebrate this event because I thought it was a little too convenient that they didn't take him alive). You can make the argument that the guy he killed was a bad dude, that he may have done a lot of shit that may have warranted the government targeting and killing him, but here's the real question that should be asked, "Should the government really be deciding for itself whether or not someone is guilty or innocent and just skip the whole due process and extra-judicially kill someone? What's stopping them from doing this to anyone else?"

Last time I checked, people are still innocent until proven otherwise.

This same kind of logic can be applied to the whole "Punch a Nazi," debate. While you may disagree with someone ideologically, it does not justify you using violence against someone. The use of violence actually signals to normal functioning human begins that you've lost the debate because you have to resort to force to silence your opposition. Does this mean I support Nazis? Nope, I think their ideology is backwards and antithetical to Western civilization, but that does not mean I am for taking away their right to think how they want to think, or their ability to exist.

Nazis have done horrible things in the past, but as they exist today they really do not have any way of regaining power, at least democratically. After what happened in the Second War it'd be a pretty hard sell for most of the general public to go along with a Nazi-esque regime.

"I Disapprove of What You Say, But I Will Defend to the Death Your Right to Say It"- Some guy smarter than me.

You know it was Aristotle that said, "It is the mark of an educated mind that can entertain an idea without accepting it." (You know I'm getting full of myself when I start quote old dead dudes no one gives a shit about)  Why does this quote matter? I think it has a lot to do with this attitude that people are some how fragile objects that need constant reassurance and acknowledgement in order for someone to "feel," safe and secure.

The world outside of school does not give a shit about your feelings, so stop acting like they matter (because they don't). Sure you may have gone through some shit in your life, well guess what? So has everyone else, stop expecting people to give in to your Sophist demands that they conform to your shallow understanding of reality. Want people to care about you? Show them you care about them first, everyone else is just some random ass hole that should have zero affect on your life.

So in closing, I actually managed to write about something other than magic today (Giving myself a gold-star here). I've been standing on the side lines for far to long, watching the actual rise of Fascism in the form of Antifa (Ironic really) and people who are demanding that Freedom of Speech be curtailed to spare their feelings, to which I emphatically have to say "Fuck your feelings, no one cares now let me speak and make a complete ass out of myself." - Direct, totally legit quote from me guys.

I'll leave you all off with a video from System of a Down that kind of adds emphasis to this post, feel free to leave comments below and maybe even share with your friends.

My Top 10 mono-blue cards!

Call me, "Babie, Babie Jace."

Hey guys, so you remember my mono-blue Teferi deck? Well, I switched him out for Jace, Vryn's Prodigy. I've also done some retooling of the deck so I'll have to update the deck on Tappedout if you're all curious.

Anyway, this post is about the top 10 best cards in my deck, with some honorable mentions. My first honorable mention is Pongify and Reality Shift, for those times when you just gotta get rid of troublesome creatures. The reason they're honorable to mention though is blue doesn't have a lot of creature removal and these two spells do the best job available in their color.

So let's start the list:

10. Telling Time:

Come here often?

Telling Time is a great card, it's a slightly better anticipate because for the same amount of mana you get to look at the top three cards, put one in your hand, and then you get to choose what you're going to draw into next, it's a great card and adds a lot of flexibility to the game.

9. Rewind:

Please come again.

Nothing feels better than resolving a rewind and untapping four lands, especially when one of them is a Temple of the False God and a Shire of Nyx. Hello value town.

8. Well of Ideas:

Who doesn't like drawing cards?

Who doesn't like drawing cards? Sure your opponents get to draw an extra card, but when you can shut them down easily, does it really matter?

7. Sphinx's Tutelage:

OH GOD MAKE IT STOP!

When you're drawing some many cards, why not get some value from it? I recently added this as the win-con to this deck, mostly because I realized killing eight people with combat damage is a lot of work, especially with all the triggers I would have to remember, so why not just mill everyone?

6. Pact of Negation:

How about no?

For when you really need to stop a spell resolving and you're all tapped out.

5. Daze:

Double No.

This is the back up plan of the back up plan, I cannot tell you how many times this card has saved my ass.

4. Aetherspouts:

That's cute.

Great dealing with heavy aggro decks, it basically allows you to push the game back several turns. This card also allows for some pretty hilarious shenanigans with Torrential Gearhulk... Speaking of...

3. Torrential Gearhulk:

What's that? You took four turns rebuilding your board? Sorry. Not sorry.

Nothing like flashing this guy in and casting a Rewind, or Aetherspouts for the second time, the value is real.

2. Tezzeret the Seeker:

Who needs a Trinket mage any way?

Possibly one of my favorite planeswalkers in my deck, he does all of the things I want to do as a blue mage, he can tutor up my sol ring, or he can untap two of my rocks and just give me straight up value. Tezzeret is just a great card over all.

1. Expropriate:

I heard you like taking extra turns...

This card, if it resolves, just ends the game, especially in multiplayer. I either get to take a bunch of extra turns, or I take control of a permanent each of my opponents control. It's the ultimate in durdly tech.

So there you have it guys, who doesn't like a top 10 list? Let me know down in the comments what you all think and feel free to leave some feed back, as always thanks for reading!

My stream Schedule

Okay, I know I already made a post about my stream schedule, but I haven't really stuck to it mostly because I am lazy, and mostly because I am lazy. That's not fair to anyone who wants to tune in regularly, so for the time being I think I'll just narrow my stream down to at least three days a week. For the time being, I'll try to do something like Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I'll start streaming at about 9 o'clock (21:00 for anyone on 24 hour) every night. Monday will be Fallout New Vegas, Wednesday will be The Last of Us, and Friday will be a swing night where I will play anything from Doom to Titanfall 2. Anyway, be sure to tune in I'll leave a link to my twitch stream here.

I really like Fallout New Vegas

I really enjoy this game, so long as you don't roll a garbage character that can't do anything, it's quite fun.

As of this writing I am playing a level 18 character that mostly focuses on Speech and Science to break into computers and talk my way out of situations. I maxed out my speech skill, and I'll probably work on Science next. My other tagged skills are Medicine and now Lock Picking (thanks to Tag!).

I mostly wander the wastes now wearing a business suit, rebreather and space helmet.

My style of play is trying to pass as many skill checks as I possibly can, so I'll probably have to go into Barter because I'm noticing a lot more Barter checks than usual.

Anyway, so you remember that post about me setting a schedule for streaming? Well, things have been kind of hectic for me lately, when I originally wrote that piece I did not know I was going to go on a month long trip with particularly zero internet access and no game systems to stream from at the time. Well, now I'm back home, and I'm still looking for work and also trying to balance learning Crazy Talk for animation (which is itself a possible source of income in the foreseeable future),

I'll leave you guys with some clips from my stream two days ago that no one bothered to watch and hope to work out an actual schedule for this shit so that you all can enjoy watching me be bad at games.

Here's a video of me getting killed by the white glove society... Classy.

In this video I convince two mobsters to kill one another, probably one of the best moments in my gaming career...

BAKA ITS NOT LIKE I WANT YOU TO WATCH!!!!

In this final video I  cause an existential crisis for a cannibalistic chef.

Thanks for reading. As always, be sure to like, comment, and share with your friends; even if you hate this content, it still helps me.

I wrote a book...

Pic related.

Keep your pants on, it's not a magnum opus or anything, it's just a quick little introduction I wrote about Commander.

Check it out here.

Any and all feedback would be great, I plan on re-writing this and adding more detail and selling it as a book. If you like it, share it with your friends, if you don't, share it any way.

I decided on a schedule...

My mind is telling me "no," but my body is sayin' "yes!"

Okay, okay, for the time being I'm going to schedule a regular stream starting at 20:00 (8:00 PM for those not on the 24-hour clock). For now I'll stream Diablo III. I've got a level 70 Demon Hunter, he's a seasonal character so look forward to watching me climb that ladder towards the top. Be sure to tune in here.

I'll try to get my mic to work so I can chat with anyone watching, or if anyone wants to jump in and join me doing some rifts they are more than welcome to do so; my gamertag is Spineytomcat4207.

Thanks for reading, I'll see you all in Diablo.

I'm a Twitch Streamer...

So I stream on Twitch, but I still haven't figured out of the site works, which makes me a terrible person. It'd be cool if you guys would tune in and watch me eat shit in video games. I guess for that to be a thing, first I'd need to set up a regular streaming schedule first... Which'll happen eventually.

In other news, I'm also writing a book on Commander, so look for that coming out soon.

I'm a lazy Butthole and that's not okay.

Pic related: Me on a typical day at work.

Okay, so lately I've been super lazy, it's been three months since I last updated this page. Mostly because I'm lazy, mostly because I don't care; which is weird. There was a time where I cared, where updating this blog at least weekly was a goal of mine, and then life happened and I just came up with a bunch of excuses to stop writing, which I did.

I also kind of strayed away from the main purpose of this blog, to discuss current events and give contrarian opinions on subjects. Instead I've been writing about magic, because, well that's more interesting than my bull shit to be quite honest.

So here I am, sitting at my computer writing this post. What's it about?

My life.

See, about a month ago I got fired from my long time job of three years. I got fired because I'm a stubborn ass hole and I went ahead and committed career Hari Kari on a grand scale. The TL; DR version of this story is I pissed a woman off enough that she wrote a four page letter to the corporate entity I worked for complaining about my customer service; all because I did not give her enough of a discount on her order.

Enough about that bull shit. That was back in March. Here it is, it's April, and I have a new, better job. Ironic, really. The last time I found myself unemployed I languished on my parents couch for three years while barely getting by with shitty part time jobs, so now that I'm working a better full time job, with better hours, and better pay, I'm a little beside myself. There's a voice in the back of my head actively trying to sabotage me, and for the most part I ignore it.

Did I mention I hear voices in my head? Yeah, I'm totally not crazy guys. Trust me. Honest.

So yeah, for the time being at least, things are looking up for me.

Now all I have to worry about is possibly finding a new place to live in PSL (an idea I'm not entirely enthused with). That's neither here nor there, I'll eventually make a decision on my living situation, until otherwise I'm a bit at odds with myself.

Here's hoping I've at least got enough money to buy gas to get to work... Thanks for reading, look forward to more riveting writing from me in the future, I promise better writing and maybe something else other than magic related content (though personally I love Magic a little to much to NOT write about it).

Mono-Blue Shenanigans with Teferi

Hello all, I've come to a point in my life where I'm done playing multi-color decks and have moved on to mono-colors decks now. I pulled my Marchesa decks apart and made two decks with the best cards from a single color; Black and Blue. I'll post a separate piece on my mono-black deck later, right now I'll introduce you my mono-blue deck.

Here it is: Teferi Weird Stuff.

It's Mono-blue good stuff. If you look at it, I don't have any infinite loops, or really any win-con (Unless you consider the Rite of Replication/Frost Titan combo). It's a straight up deck that does what most decks don't want to do; kill you with combat damage. Most of my decks do that actually, kill you with combat damage; the most unreliable ways to win.

Why?

'Cause it's boring any other way.

Winning without interacting with your opponent is kind of shit, so I enjoy winning in weird ways.

Anyway, this deck's a whole lot of fun and it's shut down some pretty strong decks. If you like my deck, up vote it on tapped out for me and share it with your friends if they're thinking of brewing a mono-color decks. Feel free to comment as well, I'd like some feedback.
