I'm a white male and I watched Captain Marvel and thought the movie was alright so don't let the title confuse you here, I'm really referring to everything else surrounding the movie and it's reception as a whole. A lot of it does not make sense to me and makes me wonder if I saw the same movie everyone else is complaining about.
Now, contrary opinion is what I originally started this blog to share, and I'm lazy about writing posts in over a year just about, so let me breathe some life into this otherwise stale blog by sharing my shitty opinion no one asked for.
That being said, does the movie merit a watch in the theater? Yeah, or just wait for the DvD. It's really up to you, I know some people would rather watch it at home so I'm not going to imply that those people somehow hate women, or that their fragile masculinity is on display, rather I'll acknowledge the preference and stick to more relevant topics like the over all quality of the movie and the plot.
Which reminds me, the plot is kind of poopy. Not going to lie, it's not good. There are a lot of holes, and most of it's well, jumbled and poorly handled. There's also Samuel Jackson. They cgi'd his head onto a younger dudes body and it's pretty jarring to say the least. Other than that, Sam as Nick Fury was alright, he had some good quips and the movie and he didn't seem tacked on or anything.
Oh and the alien bad guys? They're not actually bad guys at all, they're space refugees or something and they just want to live peacefully because reasons. In fact, most of this movie happened because reasons, so I'd recommend shutting off your brain and just rolling with it because the more you try to think about it, the less sense it makes.
I guess maybe I should have added a spoiler warning to this blog, but the movies been out for three weeks already, so if you haven't seen the movie by now, or you're not aware of key details, then that's on you, not me.
In closing, the movies dumb, but you should go see it, it's not really that empowering to women either because Brie's character already starts as a bad ass commando type person from the start and they try and use flash backs to her struggling in a vain attempt to show everyone how hard she tries while taking it completely out of context and most of the movie just kind of happens because the script says so. Also, it's not like there were no strong female role models in cinema to begin with, if girls really want to look up to someone, they should watch Sigourny Weaver as Ripley.
It's a movie, watch it, or don't watch it.
