Extus, or: How I learned to love Mardu again.

I love this card design

Extus is probably one of the best legendaries printed in the color wedge of Mardu in recent memory. This card does all of the things you want to be doing in these colors. I can't tell you how many times I've watched an opponent play a single bomb creature against me, only to pass back to me so I can edict them. Extus is one of those decks that kind of builds itself, you really just want to be playing creatures that make tokens, or spells that make tokens so you can really take advantage of the back half of this card. The 3/6 blood avatars that you make from the back half just give you so much value, their attack trigger is really powerful. Honestly, just focus on putting Anointed Procession and you're pretty much golden.

I'm playing this legendary both on Historic, and in paper EDH. Extus is one of those cards that you really need to read it to understand it, and when you're done reading it, you should probably read it again because he's a real work horse. The creature half of this card doesn't seem very impressive, he's a 2/4 with double strike, he's mostly just a magnet for removal (he really is). What really pushes him into awesome design is his magecraft trigger. It's one of those things you can sometimes forget, however there are certain board states where's it better to just play Extus out and hold up some interaction, when your opponent goes to remove him you can cast the spell you were holding up and retrieve a non-legend from your yard. I did this once forgetting his trigger and grabbed back a Skyclave spirit that went on to win me the game.

A work of art.

As far as deck construction goes, you really just want to be jamming as much mana rocks as possible, along with board wipes. The more, the merrier. I find in historic it helps to run the stuff that comes in untapped, if you have mythic wildcards to spend, spend them on a few key planeswalkers, or Chromatic Orrery. A long with Outlaw's Merriment, you should really invest in Anointed Procession too (as previously mentioned).

If you've been on the fence about playing MTG Arena because you're afraid it's pay to win, I'd tell you, in a way it is, but it also is not. See, you're playing against people, and people are, well, dumb. Just keep grinding out games and finishing your quests and do what I did, just grind out gems till you've got enough to purchase the season pass. It took me half the season to grind out enough gems to do it, but I did, and when the next one comes out, I'll probably end up opening my wallet and spending the $20 for it.

I only play brawl, so it's possible to just spend all my wildcards on just singles I need for the deck. Anyway, it's been a while since I've written about magic, so I'll leave it off here and may even write a follow up discussing some of my favorite cards in this deck. Thanks for reading guys.

Why is my Governor such an Idiot?

I live in Florida and DeSantis is my Governor so I have to wonder, why is he rolling back mask mandates and threatening school funding if they mandate them?

Between Gaetz and DeSantis, how do people like this keep getting elected? I'll make the baseless assertion it's probably voter apathy, but seriously I think we can do better than these boot lickers and alledged human traffickers (referring to the latter, not the former).

Any way just a short post today. Maybe I'll maintain this blog moving forward, it's only been two years since I've update this thing.
